Turkish Tiles: Bringing Together Communities Around the World
In this workshop, participants will learn about the history of Iznik Pottery, which received its name from the town in Turkey where it was originally crafted. Turkey is bordered by eight countries and has always played a significant role within European and Asian trade, culture, and politics. Here, students will create individual tiles with a traditional Iznik design; gain a deeper understanding of the history of Turkey and the connection to art through the Silk Road trade in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East; develop their fine motor skills through the art of tracing, and learn about different types of pattern making. For grades 3 & 6!
